Thaki Marks 10 Years of Digital Empowerment: A Decade of Impact for Refugee and Vulnerable Children

  • 2015–2025: 10 years of pioneering digital inclusion across the Middle East
  • 320+ teachers trained in Lebanon and Jordan
  • 41,000+ children reached through repurposed laptops and offline learning tools
  • 6,700+ laptops deployed to 180+ education partners across Lebanon and Jordan
  • Honoring a decade of resilience, circular economy innovation and community-led transformation

Beirut, Lebanon / Amsterdam, Netherlands — 2 October, 2025 — Nonprofit organization Thaki commemorates its 10th anniversary by honoring the power of education to heal, inspire, and transform lives. Founded in 2015 in response to the Syrian crisis, Thaki has become a leading force in digital inclusion—providing access to offline digital learning for tens of thousands of forcibly displaced and vulnerable children across the Middle East.

Over the past decade, Thaki has grown from a grassroots idea into a trusted regional actor with a bold, scalable model. By breathing new life into donated laptops and loading them with carefully curated, multilingual educational content, Thaki has enabled over 41,000 children to learn and thrive, regardless of internet access or geographic hardship.

To facilitate this impact, Thaki has trained over 320 teachers in Lebanon and Jordan in digital classroom skills, and has created a free, online Teacher Digital Toolkit with the potential to support many more educators in low resource contexts.

“We’ve built more than a tech program: we’ve built a movement of resilience,” said Rudayna Abdo, Founder and CEO of Thaki. “Even amid war and displacement, our communities have shown extraordinary strength. With every laptop, every lesson, we’ve seen the determination of children to learn and teachers to adapt. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished together. And we’re just getting started.”

In 2024 Thaki’s founder Rudayna Abdo was named a Schwab Social Innovator of the Year, one of only two laureates from the Middle East and North Africa awarded that year.

A Circular Solution With Human Impact

Thaki’s model is both environmentally sustainable and socially transformative. By diverting over 2,400 metric tonnes of CO₂ through laptop reuse, the organization has simultaneously advanced climate goals and educational equity.

Each Thaki device comes preloaded with engaging content in Arabic, English, and French, including STEM modules, literacy tools, digital citizenship lessons, and Thaki’s acclaimed Nour’s World app for social-emotional learning.

Even amid regional conflict and displacement, Thaki’s network of 180+ educational partners and trained educators continues to deliver hope and learning where it’s needed most.

The Path Ahead: supporting Gaza genocide survivors and Syria’s children

Thaki is now focused on scaling its impact further. Plans include deploying an additional 2,500 laptops, expanding into Egypt, Palestine and Syria, and developing AI-powered tools to personalize offline learning for diverse student needs.

To mark this milestone year, Thaki invites supporters to equip the organization for the future by donating to its anniversary campaign.
